How to maintain a new car?
- Quote chr1st1an about the run - in, in the first period try to run under the 70 mph, but sometimes let the engine go on 4000 - 5000 rpm. Wash the car everytime you think it's dirt, out with car soap, in with special serviette there are some made on purpose. When you wash with car soap, first wash with water, then with soap using a sponge the ones made for cars are soft and big then another time using water and dry with buckskin do not use new one, let it stay in the water first and then rub it, or it will be too hard. Wax is not necessary, but if you want, put it when the car is dry and clean, choose carnauba one, i think is better. There are also Car soap with wax in it, you could buy it, is not the same thing, but you will spend less time. About the octane: you should buy the type of octane is specified on your manual, because your engine runs better with that type of gas. Octanes are made to stabilize the gas; more octanes means that the gas will explode later so only when it's needed. If your engine needs 92 one, and you put in the 87 one, your gas could burn before it's needed and damage seriously your engine. another thing you should know: if it snow, they put salt on the roads, the salt corrodes the fender, so wash it out!
- Keep it clean in and out. no eating, smoking or sex inside
- Point by point:. * Follow your manual's recommended break - in procedure and maintenance schedule. It's a good idea to have the oil changed after break - in even if it's not time yet per the maintenance schedule. It's up to you whether you do that or not. * Buy a car wash soap that is designed for cars. An occasional wash with a dish detergent like Dawn is okay, but it will strip your wax many people will wash with Dawn prior to waxing. I like Meguiar's Gold Cl or Meguiar's NXT. * A sponge is okay, but you'd do better to get a real sheepswool mitt, or even better a boar's hair brush. Sponges can easily pick up particulate matter that turns them into sand paper, causing scratches. * Addendum to washing: No circles! Wash front to back, in the direction that air flows over the car. Washing is going to cause micro scratches there's simply no way around this, so if you avoid washing in circles you will minimize the appearance of swirl marks swirls stand out more because they're visible from every angle. * Wax when you feel like it, or when water no longer beads on the car. If you use a high quality carnuba wax, you will have to wax more often. A polymer - based wax most liquid waxes will last much longer but not be as "deep" as a carnuba wax. * Your manual should recommend the octane level you should use. If it says use 87 octane, you will get no benefit from using a higher octane. If it says use 92 octane, you really should use 92 octane it will run on a lower octane level, but will get worse mileage. The extra $0. 10 or $0. 20 for the higher octane will ultimately be cheaper than filling up the car more often with lower octane gas. I think that covers it. Treat it right and you will have a good looking, long - lasting car that you can be proud of
- Run it slower than 65 - 60 mph until your engine is used to running in that speed for atleast 1, 000 miles, then you could put the metal to the pedal after that. do not wash your car with dishsoap or laundry detergent. Sponges are good and use smooth fabric to dry off car. To wax car - I do not know. Higher octane gas means better fluid for engine. If you want want to worry less about your engine, use the highest. People think saving money means saving on gas but they're disregarding the health of their engines in the long run. Then again, if your car is a piece of chitty pie, then by all means, save on gas!
